Gutter Repairs in Illawarra

Professional gutter repairs across Wollongong, Kiama, Shellharbour and the greater Illawarra region. Leaking gutters, rusted sections, sagging brackets, downpipe repairs, gutter replacement and gutter guard installation.

Gutter repairs involve fixing or replacing damaged sections of a building's gutter and downpipe system to restore proper rainwater collection and prevent water damage to the structure. In Illawarra, gutter repairs cost $200-$2,000 depending on the work required. Sealing leaking joints and seams costs $150-$300. Replacing a corroded or damaged section costs $300-$600. Re-bracketing sagging gutters to restore correct fall costs $200-$500. Downpipe repair or replacement costs $150-$400 per pipe. Full gutter replacement for a standard Illawarra home costs $1,500-$3,500 in Colorbond. Gutter guard mesh installation costs $30-$60 per lineal metre. The most common gutter problems in Illawarra are rust-through at joints (older galvanised systems), overflowing from leaf and debris blockages, sagging from failed or insufficient brackets, and corrosion from coastal salt exposure. Neglected gutters cause fascia board rot, foundation erosion, damp walls, and water entry behind cladding — problems far more expensive to repair than the gutter itself.

What guttering work costs

Gutters and downpipes are quoted per metre and per site, because access and height do most of the work. These are the labour ranges underneath.

JobTypical rangeWhat affects it
Standard hourly rate$90 – $150Regional NSW. Sydney metro runs higher, to around $200.
After-hours & emergency hourly rate$180 – $350Typically 30–50% above standard on weeknights, 50–100% weekends and public holidays.
Call-out fee (regional NSW)$80 – $120Lower than the $100–$170 typical of Sydney metro.
Emergency call-out, total attendance$250 – $700Callout plus first hour, before parts.

These are typical price ranges for the Illawarra and NSW, drawn from published 2026 industry pricing data — not a quote, and not our fixed prices. What your job actually costs depends on access, the age and condition of the plumbing, parts, and whether it is after hours. We give you a fixed price before we start work, so you are never guessing. Overflowing gutters are usually a downpipe problem

People ring about gutters overflowing and assume the gutter is the fault. Often it is not. The gutter is a holding tank; the downpipe is the drain. If the downpipe is undersized, blocked, or discharging somewhere it cannot get away, the gutter backs up no matter what condition it is in.

The other common cause is fall. A gutter needs a consistent slope toward the outlet. Sagging between brackets creates a low point that holds water, and standing water is what rots a gutter from the inside and rusts it from the seam.

Where the water goes afterwards matters too

A downpipe discharging onto the ground next to the house is a sub-floor moisture problem waiting to happen. Kiama Council’s own stormwater guidance is blunt about sloping sites: you have to accept overflow from properties above you, and on excavated slopes seepage drains should redirect water to a stormwater drain. On a sloping block, getting the discharge point right once is worth more than fixing the same damp patch three times.

Before the storm, not after

The Illawarra is repeatedly hit by East Coast Lows, and the pattern after every one is the same: a spike in calls about roof leaks that turn out to be gutters and valleys full of leaf litter, overflowing under the sheets and into the eaves.

Clearing gutters and valleys ahead of the season is one of the highest-value maintenance jobs on a house, and one of the cheapest. It is worth doing annually anywhere with established trees — which is most of the escarpment side, and most of Jamberoo and Berry.

Gutter guard: worth it or not?

Honestly, it depends on the trees. Under large-leaf trees it works well and pays for itself in reduced cleaning. Under fine needle-drop or in heavy blossom, it can trap debris on top and become the blockage instead of preventing it. It also has to be installed so it does not lift the sheets or interfere with the valley. We will tell you if we think it is not worth it on your roof.

Coastal corrosion

Gutter fixings and brackets corrode fast near the surf. On properties at Gerroa, Minnamurra and Werri Beach, a gutter that looks fine can be held up by fixings that have almost nothing left. That is worth checking before a storm rather than discovering during one.
